The gates are installed at Lock 5

Preparing to lift the first head gate at 10.15.

The first gate is carefully lowered into position.

The bearings for the tail gates wait their turn.

Some adjustments are required to the second head gate.

Some site fencing has to be moved before the first balance beam can be lowered into position.

The tail-gate paddles are made of a plastic material which slides more easily than metal.

The balance beam is bolted into position.

The second balance beam is lowered into position.

The gates are installed by 11.15.

Close-up of the head gates.

Date plaque on one of the head gates.

The first of the tail gate balance beams, complete with paddle gear, is lowered into position and bolted into place at 14.00 and that is when I had to leave.
