Before and During Construction
The Ribble to Blackpool Road bridge.
The before photographs were taken from 1994 onwards and show various sites along the proposed route of the Link before work started.
The dated photographs are being added to show the same points as work progresses.

Before: Low water at the confluence of the Savick and the Ribble on the 2nd November 1994.

Before: Looking towards the Ribble at a 10.1m high tide on the 5th November 1994.

Before: Looking towards the Ribble from Blackpool Road, 6th April 2000.

Wed 10th Jul 2002: A slightly wider view showing the steel cabin which houses the electrical apparatus for operating the rising-sector gate.

Before: Blackpool Road bridge at a 10.1m high tide after heavy rain on the 5th November 1994. The clearance below the bridge is approximately 750mm.

Before: Looking towards the Ribble from a little way east of Blackpool Road bridge two hours after a 9.1m high tide. Lock one will be just about in the centre of this view.

Before: Looking down stream from the western end of Blackpool Road bridge, 6th April 2000.

Wed 10th Jul 2002: Bank piling, bank profiling and dredging has been completed around the two bends between lock 9 and Blackpool Road bridge. Continuous piling has been installed to protect a length of bank which has suffered from erosion in recent years.
